Vanessa Redgrave
Films: 'Anonymous,' 'Coriolanus'
My, someone's getting her Shakespeare on, isn't she? As Queen Elizabeth in 'Anonymous,' Redgrave does the whole, um, Elizabethan-costume-drama thing in Roland Emmerich's investigation into the true origins of all those great plays Shakespeare may or may not have written. Smart money's on Christopher Marlowe, but an underdog like John Webster could surprise us. We'll just have to wait and see!
As for 'Coriolanus,' Shakespeare gets an updating here, with the wartime action moved from Ancient Rome to contemporary Europe. Redgrave gets to sink her teeth into some good ol' iambic pentameter as Volumnia, Coriolanus's mother.
