'War Horse'

What's It About?: Spielberg's second holiday release is based on both the original English children's book and the spectacular stage show about an English teen named Albert (newcomer Irvine), who's devastated when his horse Joey is sold to the cavalry to fight in World War I. Unable to live without knowing what happened to Joey, Albert hatches a plan to find Joey in war-torn Europe.

Who Will Enjoy It?: Teens and up. War stories, even ones about a boy and his beloved horse, aren't usually appropriate for kids, but middle-schoolers are just the right age for this tale of a teenage boy who does the seemingly impossible to track down his horse companion. Parents with kids 12 and up should consider this as one of their holiday-break movie selections. Plus, it's Spielberg and has a stellar supporting cast, so you know it'll be epic!
