The choice to do this was a little bit of a surprise to people. You're an Oscar winner -- was this just a normal decision for you?
Oh, I'm a fan. I think it was about the fact that I've always wanted to make another genre movie, and I really loved the story in this book. I really did. There's something incredibly interesting about it, and challenging.

In the 'Twilight' director lottery, you kind of won.
Well I got to do the third act, which is kind of like cheating. [Laughs] All the other guys set it up for me.
