Steve Zaillian for 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo'

Odds for a nomination: Unlikely. This was already a hit book and a recent hit movie, so it may not be clear what value Zaillian added. Aside from 'The Silence of the Lambs' and 'The Departed,' Oscar hasn't shown much fondness for crime thrillers in recent years. But if anyone gets credit for making it arty enough to merit the Academy's attention, that'll be director David Fincher.
