Back to 14 Great Movie Odd Couples
'The Odd Couple' (1968)
Everertt Collection
The pairing that gave this list its name. From Neil Simon's Tony Award-winning play in 1965 to Neil Simon's Oscar-nominated movie to Garry Marshall's Emmy-winning sitcom, 'The Odd Couple' has been influencing onscreen odd couples for decades. Felix (Jack Lemmon) is neurotic and uptight; Oscar (Walter Mattheu) is a slob. When Felix's wife kicks him out and the pair move in together, mismatched antics ensue. Lemmon and Mattheu would reunite years later for 'Grumpy Old Men,' 'Grumpier Old Men' and even 'The Odd Couple II,' proof that you're never too old for a sequel.
