J.J. Abrams Didn't Want to Do 'Star Trek 2' in 3D

J.J. Abrams' cinematic hero Steven Spielberg might be all about 3D these days, but that doesn't mean Abrams is thrilled about the gimmick. While speaking to reporters about his new Fox series "Alcatraz," at the Television Critics Association, Abrams admitted that having his upcoming "Star Trek" sequel converted to 3D wasn't his idea. "I did not fight for the 3D. It was something the studio wanted to do. I didn't want to do it."

Kim Novak 'Violated' By 'The Artist' Over 'Vertigo' Score [UPDATE]

"The Artist" has been lauded as one of the most charming movies of the year, but not even the adorable antics of superstar canine Uggie has impressed movie icon Kim Novak. The star of Alfred's Hitchcock's 1958 classic "Vertigo" has put out a press release and taken out a trade ad over her displeasure with the similarities between 'The Artist''s music and that of Hitchock's favorite composer. She says that hearing Bernard Herrmann's score for "Vertigo," as used in "The Artist," has left her in a "state of shock" that she compared to being raped.

James Franco, 'Pick-Up Artist'? Actors Wants to Teach You How to Snag Women

As if you didn't have enough James Franco news this week, let's drop his name a few more times, shall we? The ubiquitous actor-director-novelist-host and mentor to super-intelligent apes is in negotiations to star in 'The Game,' MGM's adaptation of the best-selling book about picking up women. "There is no such thing on a movie," Denise Di Novi, who's producing the project, told Vulture, in case you needed clarification on that. But, West, who's a huge fan of the '60s space-age family, did talk to Di Novi and partner Donald De Line and may end up involved in the film in some capacity. Just not as the non-existent "creative director."

Now that the men of 'Downton Abbey' are preparing to march off to enter World War I (the much-awaited second season debuts this Sunday on PBS), we salute actors like Gary Cooper and directors like Howard Hawks who told the story of what was once thought to be the "war to end all wars."

"I was actually in the ambulance and wanted to go back, which was a little crazy, but it's pretty addictive."
