People's Choice Awards Winners 2011: Johnny Depp, Kristen Stewart, Zac Efron Are Fan Favorites

The 2011 People's Choice Awards were presented earlier this evening and the award for Favorite Movie went to 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,' which also won the award for Favorite Drama Movie.

Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner were all on hand to accept the award in person, to cheers from the rapturous audience.

January is finally here, and in the movie world that means one thing: mind-numbing tedium. Oh, sure, fans can tune into the various award shows for a momentary diversion. But because of those awards, most studios have already released all their good stuff in December. And that leaves January as a vast dumping ground for all the second-rate films that Hollywood has deemed unworthy of serious consideration. It's enough to make a movie fan want to hibernate until February.

But since that's not an option for the non-bears among us, we've decided to come up with a plan whereby even the most devoted cinephile can make their way through the movie minefield that is January and come out the other side with their entertainment quota satisfied.

2011 is almost upon us, and for many people, that means it's time to reflect on the year gone by. And for movies, 2010 certainly had its share of excitement, with unexpected hits like 'Inception' and 'The Social Network' joining surefire blockbusters like 'Toy Story 3' as the most talked about and debated films of the year. Yes, 2010 was pretty cool.

But frankly, we'd rather spend our time looking forward than looking backward, because as great as 2010 was, we have a feeling that 2011 is going to blow it out of the water. In fact, the hard part isn't identifying cool movies to look forward to; it's figuring out which of the dozens of awesome upcoming features we're most excited about.

Christmas is upon us, and with it comes the usual array of holiday highlights: the eggnog, the tinsel, the presents, the caroling and, best of all, the excuse to watch a bunch of great movies about Santa Claus.


But while Hollywood has given us just about every kind of Santa you could think of over the last century -- replacement Santas ('The Santa Clause'), animated Santas ('The Nightmare Before Christmas'), even serial killer Santas ('Silent Night, Deadly Night') -- there's one kind of Santa we've seen far too few of: believeable Santas.

Jim Carrey's latest film, 'I Love You Phillip Morris,' may be premiering this week but it's already been generating controversy for months. Based on the true story of Steven Jay Russell, a con man who fell in love with his fellow inmate Phillip Morris while in prison and then spent years escaping from jail over and over in order to create a fantasy life together, 'I Love You Phillip Morris' has languished in film purgatory for over a year and a half despite acclaimed performances from Carrey and co-star Ewan McGregor. The main reason? Distributors are still worried over how audiences will react to the gay relationship at the center of the story.

As Hollywood controversies go, however, the one over 'I Love You Phillip Morris' has turned out to be relatively small, thanks, no doubt, to the groundbreaking work done by 'Brokeback Mountain' five years ago. 'Burlesque' hits theaters today, and boy, are we pumped up. Christina Aguilera, Cher and Kristen Bell belting out showtunes as part of an intense showbiz melodrama? Honey, that movie has been playing for years inside our mind; it's just finally hit the big screen for the rest of you to see.

So that's cool. But honestly, we're almost more excited just to see what Xtina can do as an actress. Sure, we already know she has a bigger range than Montana when it comes to singing, but the real question in 'Burlesque' is, how well can she act? We're betting she knocks it out of the park, but it's no guarantee; over the years dozens of singers have taken a stab at acting and while some of them have gone on to become stars of the screen, others have crashed and burned in epic style.
