Fans of the $1-per-night kiosk DVD rentals will have to shell out more money for new releases -- if they want to see them the day they come out. The Los Angeles Times has reported that 20th Century Fox signed a content distribution deal with NCR Corp., which operates kiosks under the Blockbuster brand, that will test prices higher than $1 per night for new releases the day they come out on DVD. When 28 days have elapsed after a DVD's initial release, Fox will then provide the DVDs for rental at $1 per night. It's a similar deal to the one Universal Pictures signed with NCR last month.
