Sundance Interviews: Eve and the Firehorse

Eve and the Firehorse, directed by Julia Kwan, is a charming tale about life, death, and religious tolerance, as seen through the eyes of nine-year old Eve (Phoebe Kut), whose sister Karena (Hollie Lo) converts to Catholicism in the wake of their grandmother's death. Eve creates her own unique religion blending elements of the Buddhist traditions of her family and the Catholicism she is exposed to when she begins attending Catholic Sunday School with Karena. Eve and the Firehorse was one of the best films at the Sundance Film Festival, and very deservedly won the World Cinema Special Jury Prize for Dramatic Film. We're saying a fond farewell to the tall snow-covered mountains of Park City and now that we're leaving we thought we'd set you off with one final Cinematical @ Sundance roundtable.  In the finale, we finally managed to pull Kim Voynar away from the screening rooms and on to the couch for a word about some award-winning films.  The other regulars are there as well, breaking down the final few days of the Festival.  Now, time to get out of the hills, and back to the real world.

Sundance Interview: Jono of Moviefone

While we at Cinematical aren't really into the fashion or parties of Sundance, the festival is known for everything Hollywood has, including outlandish parties and high-end fashion. Gifting consultant Jono, working in association with Moviefone, stopped by our fireplace at the Yarrow for a quick Q&A. Jono has been working in the fashion industry creating outlandishly gaudy giftbags for celebrities for New York Fashion Week and other events over the past 10 years.  This year's Sundance is his first time in Park City, and he's here working in association with Moviefone.  We sat down and talked with him for a few minutes about the idea of gifting, and he even reviewed one of the giftbags we recieved at a festival event.  Pretty entertaining interview, check it out at the download below.

Vlogging, podcasting and the right to free expression

While Sundance is definitely known as a place for burgeoning filmmakers to show off their creative chops, elsewhere festivalgoers can hear industry-types discuss hot topics with different moderated panels.  In the Digital Center, Cinematical and Weblogs, Inc.'s own Jason Calacanis moderates a discussion about the future of video on the Internet, especially relating to filmmakers.  In addition to Jason, other people on the panel include Susan Buice, director of the film "Four Eyed Monsters" along with its associated video podcast, Mika Salmi, founder of Atom Films, Ken Rutkowski of KenRadio, and "SoccerGirl," creator of a wildly popular video podcast.  We've split the files up into two chunks, so read on for part one!
