An Obsessive Chat About Last Night's 'The Devil Inside' Screening Between Mike Ryan and IFC's Matt Singer

Last night, I attended a screening of 'The Devil Inside.' A screening that involved a DJ. It was a mostly miserable experience. That is, until the audience, whose members had received free tickets, started openly booing the movie after it ended. That part was fascinating. I've never seen anything quite like that before. Matt Singer -- from IFC, Sundance Channel and Time Out New York – was also there. (You can read his review here.) The experience was so unusual that we decided an obsessive discussion was in order. (Spoiler alert, obviously)

A Running Diary of 'The Devil Inside' Screening: One of the Most Miserable Nights of My Life

Last night, I saw a movie called 'The Devil Inside.' I am not a fan of horror movies -- especially "found footage" movies like 'Paranormal Activity' -- because, frankly, they scare me. I was supposed to watch Liam Neeson fight wolves in 'The Grey,' but the person who determines my daily employment status suggested that I see 'The Devil Inside' instead. This would turn out to be one of the most miserable nights of my life. Along the way, I kept a running diary of my evening.

20 Suggested Names for Benedict Cumberbatch's 'Star Trek 2' Villain

Benedict Cumberbatch is a pretty cool name. Actually, I wish it were my name. In fact, it seems impossible not to succeed in life with the name Benedict Cumberbatch. To wit: Benedict Cumberbatch -- star of 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,' 'War Horse' and the BBC series 'Sherlock' -- has now been cast in J.J. Abrams' sequel to 'Star Trek,' a movie that could be called anything except 'Star Trek 2.' What will Cumberbatch's likely villainous character be named in the 2013 sequel? How do you give an actor called Benedict Cumberbatch a name that is better than the one he already has? Let's give it a try!

Why Kristen Wiig Is Right to Skip 'Bridesmaids 2'

The news that Universal is toying with the idea of going forward on a 'Bridesmaids' sequel even without the original's star and writer, Kristen Wiig, should not come as too big of a surprise, given the hit comedy's gargantuan worldwide box-office haul of nearly $300 million. True, the dribs and drabs of information we've been hearing could all be part of a negotiation strategy on both sides, but here's why it may not be: Kristen Wiig is smart and realizes that a sequel to a comedy is not a great idea. Sure, she'd make a lot of money. But at what price to her reputation, which happens to be glowing with the radiance of 1,000 suns at this moment?

How Much Does Lisbeth Salander's Dragon Tattoo Actually Cost?

You may be tempted to celebrate today's news that 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' will likely get its sequel, 'The Girl Who Played with Fire,' with an act of symbolic solidarity. Specifically, you may be tempted to hire someone to etch a dragon tattoo onto your left shoulder blade, so you can look just like Rooney Mara's Lisbeth Salander does in the movie. But before you take such a drastic and irreversible step, you'll need to answer a few questions. How much would it cost to buy a dragon tattoo? How long would it take? Will it hurt? This afternoon, armed with a screencap from the film, I took a field trip to three Manhattan tattoo parlors to find out.

Why I Refuse to Anticipate Any 2012 Movies

Making a list of anticipated 2012 movies is a popular thing to do this week. (You can check out Moviefone's current team coverage here.) In fact, I was going to make one as well, because (A) lists are fun and (B) looking forward to something increases my will to live. At least, I thought that it increased my will to live. That is until I looked at the list of movies I was anticipating this time last year. As it turns out, I had a very bad year.

Is Joey from 'War Horse' a Cursed Demon Beast?

Words that have been used to describe Steven Spielberg's World War I-era epic, 'War Horse': sentimental, earnest, cheesy, sugary. Try as I might, I just can't believe that any story can be this goody-goody. Spielberg has been at this a long time and there just has to be a hidden meaning inside 'War Horse.' Perhaps this is it: Joey, the titular war horse is cursed demon beast.
