Our brothers and sisters over at TV Squad have busted through the boob tube and brought with them the following juicy bits of must-see eye candy.
  • With only a few episodes of Lost left it might seem that they don't have time to wrap everything up. Well, apparently they don't plan to.
  • We've known for awhile that Rob Lowe and Adam Scott will be joining the cast of NBC's Parks and Recreations, but now we know what they'll be doing there.
  • Well, he must have done something right the last time because Ricky Gervais has been asked to host The Golden Globes again.
  • Betty White will be hosting Saturday Night Live on May 8th and NBC already has a few promos which you can see here.
  • To commemorate Youtube's fifth birthday here's a piece on those who love and loathe the site.
  • ...and finally, Conan O'Brien will be giving his first post-Tonight Show interview this sunday on 60 Minutes. Check here for the details.

Box Office: A Furry Night on Elm Street

Last week's new releases all did unimpressive numbers allowing How to Train Your Dragon to grab the top spot during its fifth week of release. Here's the top five:

1. How to Train Your Dragon: $15.4 million
2. The Back-Up Plan: $12.2 million
3. Date Night: $10.4 million
4. The Losers: $9.4 million
5. Kick-Ass: $9.3 million

Furry Vengeance
What's It All About: Family comedy in which a real estate developer receives the titular comeuppance from a group of woodland creatures.
Why It Might Do Well: Who doesn't enjoy the anthropomorphic shenanigans of movie animals?
Why It Might Not Do Well: Unfortunately the animals aren't the problem. Brendan Fraser appears to be playing his standard befuddled lead in a family/action flick that we've seen how many times now?
Number of Theaters: 2,800
Prediction: $8 million

A Nightmare on Elm Street
What's It All About: Remake of the classic 80s horror flick in which a dead child murderer attacks young people through their dreams.
Why It Might Do Well: Freddy Krueger has been scaring the crap out of folks for nearly three decades so he's recognizable to a wide audience, and Jackie Earle Haley adds his own brand of creepy to the character.
Why It Might Not Do Well: Horror remakes are far from a sure bet.
Number of Theaters: 3,150
Prediction: $38 million

Box Office: Losers With a Plan

It was a close one, but Kick-Ass grabbed the number one spot, beating out How to Train Your Dragon by a mere $200,000. Here's the top five:

1. Kick-Ass: $19.8 million
2. How to Train Your Dragon: $19.6 million
3. Date Night: $16.7 million
4. Death at a Funeral: $16.2 million
5. Clash of the Titans: $15.4 million

Three new releases this week:

The Back-Up Plan
What's It All About: After becoming disillusioned with the dating process, Zoe decides she is going to be a single parent. On the day of her artificial insemination, though, she meets someone who may well be the man of her dreams.
Why It Might Do Well: Honestly, I've got nothing here.
Why It Might Not Do Well:
The premise seems gimmicky and Jennifer Lopez's box office clout is seriously in doubt these days.
Number of Theaters: 3,300
Prediction: $14 million

The Losers
What's It All About: A team of mercenaries wage war on the CIA after they are double-crossed and left for dead.
Why It Might Do Well: Comic book adaptations are hot these days.
Why It Might Not Do Well: On the other hand, most people aren't going to realize this is a comic book film.
Number of Theaters: 2,950
Prediction: $18 million

Our brothers and sisters over at TV Squad have busted through the boob tube and brought with them the following juicy bits of must-see eye candy.
  • Ever wanted to see your favorite cartoons in real life? It can be a pretty bizarre experience. Check out five of the creepiest real life versions of cartoons.
  • If cartoons aren't your thing, check out these four TV families that you just know you want to hang out with (and no, the Bradys aren't one of them).
  • The new wave of 3D televisions apparently present a whole new set of hazards. Check them out here.
  • Over the years Syfy has presented some entertaining original programming including Farscape, Stargate SG-1 and of course Battlestar Galactica. Why then was the channel's most popular movie of the year Mega Piranha?
  • Who stands to gain the most from Conan O'Brien's movie to TBS? Why George Lopez of course.
  • ...and finally, someone agrees with me about how annoying those Verizon FiOS commercials are.

Box Office: Kicking Ass at a Funeral

It was close, but despite early estimates Clash of the Titans held on to the top spot with the comedy Date Night taking a very close second. Here's the top five:

1. Clash of the Titans: $26.6 million
2. Date Night: $25.2 million
3. How to Train Your Dragon: $24.8 million
4. Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Too?: $11 million
5. The Last Song: $9.8 million

Two new releases this week:

Death at a Funeral
What's It All About: Comedy in which a dysfunctional family gathers to bury their father amid bickering, blackmail and a misplaced corpse.
Why It Might Do Well: This is a remake of a Frank Oz film from 2007. The original had some good ideas but was painfully dry. This new cast, which includes Chris Rock, Danny Glover and Tracy Morgan, may have the missing spark.
Why It Might Not Do Well: Still, the original is only a few years old. It may be too early to revisit the story.
Number of Theaters: 2,400
Prediction: $18 million

Kick-Ass
What's It All About: A young comic book fan decides to put on a costume and fight crime, thus inspiring a whole sub-culture of masked crimefighters.
Why It Might Do Well: Comic book movies are still hot and the many trailers have lived up to the title.
Why It Might Not Do Well: Speaking of all those trailers, I'm hoping we haven't already seen all the good parts.
Number of Theaters: 3,000
Prediction: $34 million

  • HBO has greenlit Enlightened, a new comedy starring Laura Dern as a self-destructive woman who has a revelatory experience at a treatment center.
  • The Starz series Spartacus: Blood and Sand has been picking up some serious numbers. Lucy Lawless's nude scenes couldn't possibly have anything to do with it, could they?
  • Conan O'Brien has, of course, lost the Tonight Show, but might the show's new band leader be former Conan colleague Max Weinberg?
  • Glee and American Idol are all the rage these days, Fox is going to be having music themed episodes of several shows.
  • Andrew Lincoln has snagged the lead in AMC's comic book-based zombie show The Walking Dead.
  • ...and finally, George Lucas continues to milk the Star Wars franchise and will produce an animated Star Wars comedy series.
