Katherine Heigl is quietly becoming the queen of romantic comedies. Since surprising audiences with her winning performance in Judd Apatow's 2007 sleeper hit 'Knocked Up,' the 31-year-old actress has appeared in no fewer than four others, including 'Killers,' her team-up with Ashton Kutcher, earlier this year.
Next up: "Life as We Know It," which injects a heavy helping of drama into her tried-and-true formula with a rather poignant premise: Who would you choose to care for your child if you died? Holly Berenson (Heigl) and Eric Messer ("Transformers" star Josh Duhamel) find out the hard way that, despite disdain for each other, they're named as joint guardians of their mutual friends' baby, Sophie, after a tragic accident.
Moviefone spoke via telephone with Heigl to get her thoughts on what it was like playing a new mother so soon after she became one in real life (with the adoption of daughter, Naleigh). She also opened up about who she'd want to raise her daughter if the unthinkable happened. And no conversation about parenthood would be complete without a mention of those unnerving television shows that kids love and adults love to hate.
