Movies belong to the geeks -- how else do you explain the box-office dominance of Harry Potter, Transformers and Marvel superheroes? Fans want out-of-this-world action and dazzling special effects, and 2011's movies were happy to deliver in spades. Whether it's a summer blockbuster or a scary monster movie, we want our favorite characters doing one of three things at all times: blowing something up, doing something hilarious or kissing someone hot (bonus points if they pull off all three at once). You Won't Believe How Much Money Alvin and the Chipmunks Make


As of now, the American public has access to a national treasure: 'Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked.' The rambunctious rodents are at it again in another madcap musical adventure; this time Alvin, Simon and Theodore and their Chipette counterparts Brittany, Jeanette and Eleanor, go on a cruise ship vacation with the always-irritable Dave Seville. But Alvin's hijinks result in all six of the cute and the cuddly chipmunks getting stranded on a deserted tropical island. They'll have to learn to work together to get back home ... and bust out some new songs along the way.

Would You Pay $5 to Fund a Movie?


Fans of stand-up comedian / television auteur Louis C.K. were treated to a unique interaction on Monday with the Emmy-nominated funnyman; he participated in an open Q&A on reddit.com, covering as many topics as possible, from his comedic influences to his religious beliefs. One of the reasons he was participating in the event was to promote his newest stand-up special, 'Live at the Beacon Theater,' which he is distributing on his own, via his website; you can download his new concert for a low price of just FIVE dollars. When a fan asked him if he had any plans to make a movie, C.K. explained that the difficulties of the film industry prevent him from trying to work within the system.
