Free Movie of the Day: 'Greasy Rider'

The 2006 documentary 'Greasy Rider' follows filmmakers Joey Carey and JJ Beck as they travel cross-country in a 1981 Mercedes-Benz 300d modified for $800 to run on waste vegetable oil.

This isn't a road picture, though. Nor is it a condemnation of the oil industry. Rather, it's somewhere in between, and it's our pick for free movie of the day.

Free Movie of the Day: 'Steal This Film'

Since the creation of BitTorrent in 2002, the use of file sharing clients to download applications, video games, music, movies, TV programs and images has exploded. Users download a small file called a torrent that contains pointers to copyrighted files, and the download begins. It's fast, easy ... and illegal.

Sites that exist as torrent aggregators are numerous, and one of the most popular -- the Swedish-based The Pirate Bay -- is the subject of our free movie of the day, 2009's 'Steal This Film,' a newly-updated version of the 2006 original.

Free Movie of the Day: 'Confessions of a Superhero'

It's easy to dismiss the aspiring actors in superhero garb who patrol Hollywood Boulevard's Walk of Fame as near-homeless-panhandlers.

But, in truth, costumed individuals -- like the four people profiled in Matthew Ogens' 2007 documentary 'Confessions of a Superhero' -- are actually recognized by some Hollywood city officials as "ambassadors for the community," and are as iconic to the tourists who flock to Hollywood as the Walk of Fame itself.

This fascinating study of fame and its castoffs is our pick for free movie of the day.

Free Movie of the Day: 'Freedom State'

Despite the potentially grim premise of 'Freedom State,' which involves eight mental patients who set out on a quest after the world ends, this 1996 independent film is anything but bleak. Instead, it's a playful film which revels in its idiosyncratic characters and challenges what qualifies as normal or crazy.

This unique indie by Cullen Hoback ('Monster Camp') is our free movie pick of the day.

Free Movie of the Day: 'Slacker'

There's perhaps no better indication of what 'Slacker,' Richard Linklater's film from 1991 and our free movie pick of the day, wants to achieve than in the first seven minutes of the film.

Linklater himself steps off a bus, starts a rambling discourse with a silent cabdriver about the possibility of alternate realities while referencing 'The Wizard of Oz,' Leo Tolstoy, Frank Zappa and 'The Omega Man,' then later discovers the body of a woman struck by a car surrounded by a group of people who couldn't be bothered to help.

Taylor Lautner Displays Talent for Grape-Catching on 'Tonight Show' (VIDEO)

Filed under: Video, The Twilight Saga
While visiting 'The Tonight Show,' Taylor Lautner showed off his unique skill at catching tossed grapes in his mouth, a talent apparently developed on the set of 'New Moon' along with co-star Kristen's Stewart's assistance.

Lautner managed to catch three grapes in a row lobbed by Conan O'Brien, never faltering even though the distance increased after each toss. Now, roll over, Taylor. Roll over. Good boy.

Watch the video after the jump.

Free Movie of the Day: 'Heavy Metal in Baghdad'

Like their English-speaking metalhead counterparts, the members of the Iraqi heavy metal band 'Acrassicauda' proudly have an affinity for the likes of 'Metallica,' 'Slayer' and 'Mayhem,' and they fully embrace the anti-establishment ethos of the metal subculture.

They don't do so because of middle-class ennui or as a reaction to privilege, however; they do so as a way to channel the horror and chaos they witness on a daily basis in their native war-torn Iraq. The story of Iraq's only heavy metal band is told in the documentary 'Heavy Metal in Baghdad,' and it's our free movie pick of the day.
