'Salt' Movie Reviews

There seems to be two kinds of critics. There are those who enjoy seeing Angelina Jolie jump, punch, run and shoot her way out of fantastically impossible situations and there are those who don't. The consensus is one can either suspend believability and enjoy the new Jolie thriller 'Salt' or not.

Jolie is Salt, a CIA agent on the run after a double cross. The plot involves embedded Russian spies in America -- timely considering the recent news of a Russian spy ring in the States -- and lots of twists and turns. And we're not talking about Jolie's action scenes.

Liev Schreiber, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Andre Braugher co-star with a script by Kurt Wimmer ('Equilibrium'). Phillip Noyce, the noted Australian director, is receiving high marks for his work here.

Famous Movie Locations: The House From 'The Amityville Horror' (Toms River, NJ)

The house at 18 Brooks Drive in Toms River, New Jersey, is not haunted. Nor did ghastly murders take place there. But sure enough the house was featured in the 1979 mega hit 'The Amityville Horror.'

The movie 'The Amityville Horror' was based on events that supposedly happened in a Dutch Colonial house in the town of Amityville on Long Island, N.Y. According to Jay Anson's book 'The Amityville Horror,' the Lutz family lived there for 28 days before fleeing because it was haunted. The year before the Lutzes moved in, Ronald DeFeo murdered his mother, father, two brothers and sister there in 1974.

'Inception' Movie Reviews

The secret is out.

Christopher Nolan's much anticipated 'Inception' hits movie theaters this weekend, and a collectively asked question will be answered: What the heck is it? While its initial trailer was purposefully ambiguous, we can now surmise that it is about a team of dream professionals who enter peoples dreams and manipulate them. It's a complex world, dreams, and the movie has mostly dazzled critics with it's multidimensional storytelling approach and special effects.

In the world of 'Inception,' Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) leads a team of dream catchers (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy, Dileep Rao and Ellen Page). He's offered one last job by the wealthy Saito (Ken Watanabe), who wants his team to to implant an idea, referred to as an inception, in the dreams of one Robert Fischer Jr. (Cillian Murphy).

Cobb's mysterious ex, Mal, is played by Marion Cotillard.

Critics are generally raving about 'Inception.' Those who don't like it really don't like it and only a few are so-so. The consensus is that Nolan ('Batman Returns' and 'The Dark Knight') has established himself as a Hollywood game changer with 'Inception.'

'Despicable Me' Sequel Already in the Works

Let's call it 'Gru Part II.'

According to Deadline, Universal is in talks with Illumination Entertainment's Chris Meledandri and writers Cinco Paul and Ken Daurioto pen a sequel to the surprise hit 'Despicable Me,' which grossed a whopping $56 million over the weekend.

Meanwhile, two short films featuring Gru's (Steve Carell) Minions, his yellow thumb-shaped henchmen, on a platform yet to be determined.

"What's particularly nice is that the making of "Despicable Me' was probably more fluid than any film I've ever worked on,'' said Meledandri, former head of Fox Animation, in the piece. "There was a clarity and a unified vision behind this film. I started the company three years ago this spring, and I am confident that this was the fastest transition of any major studio CG movie from idea to release that has ever been done.''

'Predators' Movie Reviews

The 'Predators' are back, and that means one of two things for filmgoers. It's either a chance to relive a classic sci-fi horror franchise (five movies and counting) or it's a gory mess of bad moviemaking.

This time, a gaggle of A- and B-list movie stars (Adrien Brody, Danny Trejo, Alice Braga, Topher Grace and Laurence Fishburne) play a group of killers who get dropped on an alien world populated by, you guessed it, predators who want to do their thing to the humans. The movie is largely the ensuing fight to the death.

Robert Rodriguez of 'Sin City' fame co-produces and Nimrod Antal ('Kontrol') directs.

Critical reaction? More established reviewers dismiss the film and new-media types see worth in it. A note: 'Predators' is technically the sequel to 1987's 'Predator,' which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, and 1990's 'Predator 2.' An important fact for those, er, alien to the series
