Sometimes we're more excited for the trailer to a movie than the actual movie itself (and, indeed, sometimes the trailer ends up being better than the movie). Peter Weir's 'The Way Back' Falls Back to January

The phrase "And the Oscar goes to Peter Weir" will not be uttered in 2011 -- for now.

Why? Variety reports that the Master and Commander's latest film, 'The Way Back,' is now officially out of the Oscar race with a release date set for Jan. 21, 2011.

Still, sources tell TheWrap that Newmarket Films, which picked up the film's distribution rights, is still mulling a one-week awards run at the end of the year.

Tyler PerryDoes Lionsgate smell an Oscar nomination (or two) for Tyler Perry?

Variety reports that the studio has moved the release date of Perry's latest film, 'For Colored Girls,' from Jan. 2011, to Nov. 5, 2010. The film was originally slated to debut over Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend, though Lionsgate is now pushing for awards consideration.

The film is based on 'For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf,' a 1975 stage play by Ntozake Shange. The 1977 Broadway production received a Tony nomination for Best Play.

George Clooney to Direct Philip Seymour Hoffman, Paul Giamatti in Next Project

George Clooney is going to get political.

New York Magazine reports that Clooney is preparing his latest directorial effort: a film adaptation of the acclaimed stage play by Beau Willimon, 'Farragut North.' Willimon, a former Democratic political operative, has also adapted the screenplay.

'Farragut North' tells the story of Stephen Myers, a twentysomething presidential campaign whiz kid who plays all sorts of dirty tricks to get his Democratic candidate the nomination against a rival senator.
