Perhaps it's your little cousin who got a little too into 'Avatar,' painted himself blue and then attempted to live in the backyard for an evening. Maybe it was the smelly kid who lived on your dorm floor in college and was President of the LARPing club.

Regardless, the popularity of sci-fi as a genre, combined with the Internet's ability to connect people of all subcultures (no matter how weird) has led to an explosion of fanboy activity that blurs the lines between film, reality, fandom and straight up fetishism.
