Hollywood isn't done raiding the toy box for movie ideas yet: After movie treatments based on Battleship, Candy Land, Monopoly and Stretch Armstrong, the latest childhood playthings to receive the big-screen treatment: Mattel's Hot Wheels and Hasbro's Ouija Board.
(Not in the same film, although .... a movie about a ghostly car that rides on an orange track ... hmm, too much like 'Ghost Rider?')
A Hot Wheels movie has actually been in the works for nearly a decade, but now has been fast-tracked with Legendary Pictures currently negotiating with Mattel. A version with McG at the helm and Joel Silver producing was in development, at least until the DOA performance of 'Speed Racer' put the kibosh on that. With the smash hit of 'Fast Five,' car-themed pix are hot again.

Speaking of McG, the 'Charlie's Angels' helmer is set to direct 'Ouija Board, the Movie.' (Okay, it's actually just called 'Ouija.' ) Simon Kinberg, who wrote 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith,' and co-wrote the supernatural-esque 'Sherlock Holmes' has just finished a rewrite of a script from Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, scribes of 'Lost' and 'Tron: Legacy' fame.
The Ouija movie is being described as a family adventure movie similar to an Indiana Jones film (or, more likely, 'Jumanji'). Expect scintillating dialogue along the lines of: "You're holding it." "No, you're holding it!"
Your trivia for the day: One of the men who patented the spirit board claimed he got the name "Ouija" from the board itself and that it was an ancient Egyptian word meaning "good luck."
By the way, there's an app for that.
