I'm sure most of the naysayers won't bother to read the above, cause they are just too selfish to give a care of the consequences of their choices and don't want to think about anyone but themselves. Bur for those who do wish to understand why we ( the disability community) hate that word. And if you think people with a developmental disability are not called 'retards' to their faces... wow. People these days have honestly become too sensitive. The word retard has always been used, and will continue to be used, in a negative conotation. Just because they want to take the word 'retard' out of films doesn't mean that people won't continue to hear it during their everyday lives, especially younger children. Sure, you can make the argument that this is preventing kids from using this word to put down other people, but do you honestly think that this behavior was learned by watching a single film? The problem starts at home, not on the big screen. Society needs to stop trying to be PC about everything and needs to develop a sense of humor.

Maybe she should give back her money and go to another nation. I think her Infinity /Comcast advertisments are demeaning to everyone and I always hit the mute when she comes on. What the h..l does she play in anyway, she seems like a less than talented individual, if the advertisements are any indicaton. I rarely watch the standard channels because most of that is trash anyway, meant to dull the adult brain down to a 7th grade level. She sure thinks a lot of hersself and nothing of the rest of the world. Oh well, the Chinese will straighten her out!

I totally agree with this article. The R word along with a couple other words do not need to be used in a movie or a TV program to make it entertaining. I find it very offensive to hear a big screen actor use the Lord's name in vein. In fact, I usually turn the movie off at that point because I do not want to hear them lower themselves by saying the GD words or JC. I am willing to bet that those 2 sets of words offend a great number of movie fans, but no one knows how to get them stopped. There are a large number of other words that can be used in their place that will elicit a better responce from the audience. I feel most people would not even realize the negative use of these words has gone away.
This is just my opinion although I would like to hear from others who feel the same way about the unnessary negative use of these words.

For the record "Idiot" would be equally offensive. The word idiot does not mean stupid, but rather specifically refers to a mentally disabled person! Look it up. This includes and is not limited to "idiot, dolt, dullard, moron, imbecile, and cretin"... have fun avoiding all of that.

fool and ignoramus are okay as they do not actually refer to mentally disabled persons.

It's not how big the word is, its how you use it!

Hollywood comedienne Jane Lynch and the like want to end the usage of a word that could be offensive. A term that might under some circumstance cause pain to another person. So why only "retard"? And who the hell was sitting in the ADULT 'R' rated film "The Hangover" getting emotionally traumatized by the hilarious line about Rainman!? WHO!?

Jane would have to never tell a joke again to be fair and not offend anyone. Stand up comedy of all types would end. Even the "good Christian" comedians would have to close up shop!

A campaign to raise awareness about the use of the "R-word " is logical, and progressive; etcetera and so fourth. I get it. But a campaign singling out one slur in particular and attempting to end or ban its usage in film or show business entirely; being headed by the very people that make a living slamming everyone and everything in the world we live in... Well that's just retarded!
