And you thought Katy Perry's 'California Gurls' video was the ultimate live-action version of classic board game Candy Land.
The guys who are writing the upcoming 'Candy Land' movie revealed that they have much more ambitious plans than just bright colors and catchy songs. "We envision it as 'Lord of the Rings,' but set in a world of candy." Oooookay then.
At the 'Kung Fu Panda 2' premiere, Jonathan Aibel, who co-wrote the sequel with Glenn Berger, chatted about their plans to bring Cupcake Commons and the Chocolate Mountains to life in as epic a fashion as the Oscar-winning Peter Jackson trilogy.
Alert the world's finest Shakespearean actors: The roles of King Kandy, Duke of Swirl and Lord Licorice can be yours for the asking.
"We don't see it as a movie based on a board game, although it has characters from that world and takes the idea of people finding themselves in a world that happens to be made entirely of candy where there are huge battles going on," Berger says. "We are going for real comedy, real action and real emotions at stake."
Let's review: 'Lord of the Rings' is a multi-volume series written by Oxford-educated scholar J.R.R. Tolkien, with echoes of World War I and ancient mythology; Candy Land is a game designed to appeal to pre-reading-age children.
Are these guys nuts, or will they be laughing all the way to the bank?
