Johnny Depp has lined up yet another remake to sandwich between 'Pirates' films, this time raiding the 1930s to play a detective in 'The Thin Man.'

There's still no Nora to his Nick in the remake of the classic, but 'Chicago' director Rob Marshall (who just directed Depp in 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides') is now on board to direct.

Marshall said in a press release, "John [DeLuca] and I are overjoyed at the idea of working with Johnny again, especially on such a classy and classic project."

For those of you not familiar with the 1934 original, Nick Charles is a retired private detective who continues to solve high-society murders with wife Nora and dog Asta. William Powell and Myrna Loy played the cocktail-loving, crime-solving couple in several films.
The couple first debuted in the novel by 'The Maltese Falcon' author Dashiell Hammett, where the "thin man" is not Nick Charles, but a murder victim.

We might expect sparkling sophistication and charm from Depp, but the odds of Jerry Stahl, whose credits include 'CSI' and 'Bad Boys II,' producing anything like the original films seems slim. No word on whether the remake will be set in the '30s or be updated.

Look for 'The Thin Man,' along with 'Pirates of the Caribbean 5,' in 2013 and 'The Lone Ranger' sometime in 2014.

Who would make a good Nora to Depp's Nick? We're thinking Emily Blunt would have the necessary wit and style.
