Fassbender would play the leader of a gang of art thieves who pull off a major heist, but then find themselves with no loot after the only crew member who knows its whereabouts suffers a blow to the head. The gang begins to suspect he is faking his amnesia and hires a female hypnotist to unlock his memory.
It's a remake of 2001 British TV movie 'Trance,' directed by Joe Ahearne. According to Deadline, it'll have "the dark, sexy, hard-edged tone of early Boyle films 'Shallow Grave' and 'Trainspotting.'"
Boyle is hoping to squeeze in the film before beginning work on the 2012 Summer Olympics; he will be directing the opening ceremony. He plans to shoot the film, then return to edit it after the Olympics wrap. That means that 'Trances' will be shot in September and wont' be edited until at least August of 2012, with a release date of March 2013.
That's a long time to wait for what sounds like a promising thriller but both Boyle and Fassbender are in constant demand these days. Fassbender is currently shooting 'Prometheus' for Ridley Scott and has been mentioned for what seems like nearly every coveted upcoming film role, including 'Akira.'
