The Oscars are done, and by the look of it, so is James Franco's career as an Oscar host. The multitalented star seemed to be sleepwalking through the entire show, delivering his lines half-heartedly. Perhaps the excitement of hosting and being nominated wore him out. Or perhaps, after Ricky Gervais' incendiary hosting at the Golden Globes, the Oscars' lighter comedic fare didn't motivate him much.
But enough with the past; it's time to set our sights on next year. We need a host who is funny, confident and has the stamina to host a four-hour show. Also, it would be really nice if he or she could sing and dance, or at least savagely make fun of people who sing and dance.
Who has the chops and Hollywood pedigree to pull that off? Keep reading to see who we think has the right stuff.
Robert Downey Jr.He can sing, throw a good punch and deliver a witty line. Is there anything this man can't do? No? Then why not let him host the Academy Awards? Everyone loves a comeback story, and few stars have better comeback stories than Robert Downey Jr. Maybe it'd even inspire some young stars to get their act together. Not that we're naming names. Okay, we're talking about Lindsay Lohan.
Justin TimberlakeEvery Academy Awards tends to have a singing number that drags because it involves actors, not professional singers. Justin Timberlake is obviously a proven performer and would not have that problem. His massively successful tours indicate that he would be able to handle the pressure, and his many stints on 'Saturday Night Live' have shown that he's extremely funny. Plus, he can dance!
Russell BrandJames Franco and Anne Hathaway were tapped as hosts primarily to bring in a younger audience. But tonight, they were upstaged by another powerhouse duo who would bring in a younger AND an older audience. We're talking about Russell Brand and Helen Mirren.
An evening with Russell Brand unchecked could be a nightmare, but the most attractive 65-year-old-woman in the world could easily keep him in check. His high-energy antics would be offset by Mirren's withering glances and piercing one-liners. Sounds like a pretty good match to us.
Kevin SpaceyConfident and hilariously funny, Kevin Spacey could not only do a good job at hosting, he could also bring some serious acting chops to the role. It's always fun to get to see an actor behave outside his confort zone and I for one would tune in just to see how Spacey would handle the job. He could hardly do worse than Franco did.
Ricky Gervais

Yeah, we said it! Take a page from the Golden Globes and hire a comedian who is not afraid to insult everyone in the room. The audience in the room might not like it, but the audience at home definitely wouldn't be complaining about the show being boring!
