By now most of you have probably seen the 1997 documentary 'Trekkies,' about folks who go a bit overboard when it comes to their love of all things 'Star Trek.' We've always found 'Trekkies' to be a ridiculously addictive film, partly because it's fun to watch people lose themselves so completely in a science fiction franchise, but also because of its positive message (be who you are no matter how many people may think you're nuts) and the way with which this one piece of entertainment brings so much joy and happiness to the lives of millions of people worldwide.

It was only a matter of time until Star Wars got its own fan-related documentary -- one that celebrated the most unique, creative and hardcore fans without all that extra whining and complaining you tend to get from other Star Wars fan docs. 'Jedi Junkies, which is now available for purchase or rental via Amazon (where you can buy the DVD) or iTunes, documents the lives of several massive Star Wars fans who've found ways to incorporate the franchise into their everyday lives.

There's a belly-dancing Princess Leia, a group of lightsaber-wielding martial artists, a theme band named AeroSith (love the name) and more than enough beautiful women in Slave Leia costumes. The doc also features interviews with everyone from fangirl Olivia Munn to the actors who played Chewbacca, Darth Maul and Boba Fett.

We spoke briefly to director Mark Edlitz, and you can read more of what he had to say about the film below the trailer. You can find out more about 'Jedi Junkies' over at the film's official website.

Cinematical: What separates Jedi Junkies from other films about fandom?
Mark Edlitz: With 'Jedi Junkies,' we wanted to celebrate the fans. While we show extreme behavior -- like the fan who has so many toys that he had to get rid of his bed and now sleeps on the floor -- we don't ridicule it. It was important to us to show fandom in an accurate and entertaining but ultimately positive way.

Who is your personal favorite Star Wars fan from the film?
One of my favorite fans built a life-size Millennium Falcon in his backyard! Talk about dedication. He and his friends got together and built a giant replica made out of wood. We show the construction and ultimate destruction of his personal space ship. Growing up, most fans probably fantasized about doing something like this. But he actually did it!
