Penny-Arcade, like most sane people, don't understand why some groups are upset about a black Norse God in 'Thor.'
A big screen version of '24' has been put on indefinite hold according to series producer Howard Gordon, who says Billy Ray's script wasn't the "right proposition" for the studio. He does mention, however, that Tony Scott is apparently keen to pitch an idea to Kiefer Sutherland, so the project isn't entirely dead yet.
After a slow slide into financial turmoil, MGM is proud to announce that its recent corporate restructuring has resulted in $500 million in newly raised funds, which means the studio can finally get back to not only making movies, but releasing the completed ones that have simply been collecting dust (here's looking at you, 'Cabin in the Woods').
Director Philip Noyce says that if the Angelina Jolie actioner 'Salt' does get a sequel, it won't be directed by him.
Proving that number of illegal downloads is in no way tied to box office performance,'Avatar' is the most pirated film of 2010 with an estimated 16.5 million downloads. In distant second place is 'Kick-Ass' with 11.5 million downloads.
Remember the 1982 'Tron' Holiday Special? No? Funny or Die does:
Dan Brown is now penning the screenplay for an adaptation of his last Robert Langdon novel, 'The Lost Symbol.' He is replacing Steven Knight on the gig. And you just know a movie is going to be great when its Oscar-nominated screenwriter is replaced with ... Dan Brown.
Fans of international cinema should stop by Twitch and check out Todd Brown's list of a dozen films/filmmakers that broke onto the scene in 2010 and that are worth looking out for in the future.
It's surprising that it's taken this long, but 'If You Are the One 2' will be the first Chinese film to open in both America and China on the same day when it opens this coming Friday.
How do you make notoriously terrible cult film 'The Room' even worse? By converting it to 3D, of course! Director Tommy Wiseau is planning to do just that and release the abomination film theatrically by 2012.
Finally, Universal has released a green band trailer for their very R-rated comedy 'Your Highness', due out on April 8th. The film is a spoof-throwback to the fantasy genre and stars James Franco, Danny McBride, Natalie Portman and Zooey Deschanel. Check it out below, or over on Apple in HD.
Sigh. It makes me sad that the worst, most ignorant racist bellyaching is from those passionate about the Germanic gods and fellow heathens.
I guess I just expect more from the people who practice Asatru as a real religion than to have their heads up their arses about how a god-in a comic book version of the lore that already plays fast and loose with the source material-looks in a movie. We know, more than anyone, that the gods are f@#
Penny-Arcade, like most sane people, don't understand why some groups are upset about a black Norse God in 'Thor.'
Folks I'm PISSED that Thor a GOD OF MY ANCESTORS is being played by a black actor. Last time I checked my linage there were no black Swedes in that era. Thor is a Swedish legend hero the son of Odin leader of all the Norse gods! Further "arayns" are a frigging Nazi invention Swedes and Norewegians and Danes are NOT German. In fact Sweden was neutral and was regarded as being to hard to invade by the Nazi's. Norway was invaded by the Nazi's. So please stop calling my people freaking nazi's (arayans)and stop this out of control PC Thor. Our heroes of legend were not Black!
Wait. You mean to tell me that there's going to be a black Norse god in the new Thor movie. Makes sense that hollywood would screw around with sometyhing like that just to be politically correct. It's been done before. How about the black Felix Leiter in the James Bond movie? Ever read the original Ian Fleming novels? A sandy haired fellow. Closest they ever came was Jack Lord. Then the more recent Daredevil movie. Anyone that's read the Marvel Comics series knows that Kingpin is/was white. Michael Clark Duncan is a great actor, but he's not Kingpin. For that matter, when did Nick Fury become black? Amazing transformation. More catering to the politically correct nonsense.
For all those semi-Marvel comic fans out there, you need to realize that the current batch of movies (like Iron Man) are based on the Ultimate Marvel universe, in which Nick Fury is indeed black -- and, ironically, was modelled after Sam Jackson. There was also a storyline in which one of the Valhalla godesses was black, so this isn't the huge stretch people are making it out to be.

You do realize how ridiculous that statement is? Not because there is no way it could be true, but because you are taking those stats WAY further than they could ever logically be deemed to go. Given that many people called Kick-Ass a failure due to its low box office return I would say it's pretty obvious that the producers of that movie would have appreciated if those 11.5 million downloaders had instead paid for a ticket at the theater. Especially when you consider that a lot of pirated films are watched by groups of people, so those 11.5 million downloads were probably viewed by many more people than the figure represents. Sure, piracy doesn't kill a movie all on its own, but pointing out that Avatar was the most downloaded movie doesn't mean that Avatar wasn't harmed by piracy; it just means that pirates are interested in the same movies that the general, law-abiding, ticket purchasing public is interested in.
Very well observed and stated just as well, this alleviating statement is a dirty trick used by the small-minded to encourage further pirating of movies.
