It seems that Universal is quite eager to get their 'Snow White and the Huntsman' underway before the 'Grimm' has a chance to shine, and just to change things up -- they don't want a well-known and popular leading lady. After flirting with the idea of Kristen Stewart, Saoirse Ronan and Dakota Fanning, the sights have turned towards up-and-comers, led by Stewart and Fanning's 'Runaways' co-star Riley Keough. You might not know her name, but you're familiar with her lineage -- just look at those cheekbones. She's the daughter of Lisa Marie Presley, granddaughter of Elvis.
The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Universal is holding screen tests over the next few days to find their Snow White, and in the interim, they have a short list of up-and-coming talent for the more action-oriented tale that sees Snow White running off with the Huntsman (reportedly chained together for part of their escape).
Topping the list is Keough, who played Marie Currie (sister of Cherie, played by Fanning) in 'The Runaways.' That was her first film role, though she's since worked on three upcoming films: 'The Good Doctor,' 'Jack and Diane' and 'Yellow.' Her pale skin and sometimes lipstick-red smackers make her a prime choice for a new, tougher Snow ... as long as she darkens her locks.
Keough is followed by the likes of Felicity Jones, the Brit actress who has broken into film with both 'Cheri' and the new Julie Taymor adaptation, 'The Tempest.' That might, however, clash with another project said to be on her plate -- 'Trap for Cinderella.' She's another apt physical choice, but in a more classic sense, with a big-eyed Snow White innocence that might not work as well with the film's premise -- though she's weathering the elements in 'Tempest,' so she's got that on her side.
Two more wrap up their short list -- an even greater unknown, Bella Heathcoat, whose big job thus far is the Australian soap, 'Neighbours,' and Swedish television actress Alicia Vikander.
Who would you pick to play the apple-doomed princess who passes over the dwarves for some huntsman action?
