Yesterday, the LA Times ran a piece on that very subject, during which it brought up the subject of 'College Republicans,' an upcoming dramedy about Karl Rove's quest to become "chief campus conservative." Sources close to LaBeouf say he's interested in joining the movie, though whether he'd play Rove or Rove's campaign manager, Lee Atwater, is unclear.
According to the report, a number of actors are eyeing the project -- as is director Richard Linklater, though no official word has been made.
As the article points out, the role would be a departure for LaBeouf, whose career has consisted mostly of blockbusters and high-profile movies like 'Transformers' and the 'Wall Street' sequel. As for now, the only upcoming movie LaBeouf has planned is 'Transformers 3,' which rolls into theaters on Jul. 1, 2011.
Tell us: Should Shia LaBeouf take on a more challenging role like Karl Rove? Or should he stick to the big-budget blockbusters?
