I took a little good-natured ribbing for backing the flick last summer, but I'm fine with that. Looks like my pals may also get another chance to tease me, because according to The Wrap, director Stephen Sommers is coming back to handle the sequel. All we know for certain is that Sommers and lead actor Channing Tatum will be back, and hey, The Wrap (correctly) credits Collider when they mention that Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are on screenplay duties.
Now before you call me a lunatic, I feel I must admit that I'm not always a fan of Mr. Sommers' popcorn flicks: I thought The Mummy Returns was a certifiable chore and that Van Helsing was, well, abysmal. But G.I. Joe hit me in the sweet spot, and yep, I'm actually looking forward to more of the mayhem. (I've grown to enjoy the first Mummy flick, but I still say Sommers' best flick is Deep Rising!)
More on this follow-up as it becomes available, but for now I have a question for the Joe fanatics: where should the sequel go? What cool characters can it introduce? And will those awesome amplifier suits be back? Most important: have I lost all of your respect?
