The musical 'Wicked' may be heading to theaters soon. The musical itself is based on a book of the same title by Gregory McGuire which has spawned two sequels. Hollywood logic must be that since fairy tale movies are doing well (Disney's 'Alice In Wonderland') and movies based on musicals do okay, then one that combines both will do gangbusters.
The story is about how the Wicked Witch of the West came to be in 'The Wizard of Oz.' It presents her as more of a tragic character.
Having seen the original cast on Broadway, I'm hoping that Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth reprise their roles as Elphaba and Glinda, respectively. Most likely, someone will be chosen with more of a movie name value. Of course, all this depends on the director whom hasn't even been chosen yet. J.J. Abrams is one of the names being thrown around. Stranger things have happened.
