If Betty White-mania hadn't jumped the shark already, then this latest story is the moment where it goes from cute Internet meme to "Enough already, let's move on."
The latest gossip about the last surviving Golden Girl has the 88-year-old actress appearing in the next Twilight flick, Breaking Dawn. This isn't some idle Internet speculation, either -- Robert Pattinson and Kellan Lutz are both campaigning for the star to appear in the final two parts of the wildly popular vampire series -- they've even figured out who she can play. Spoiler alert .... "She can be the baby," Pattinson told E!, meaning White could play the offspring of Edward and Bella, Renesmee Cullen.
Lutz agrees, stating "I love Betty. I would love for them to do what they did in Benjamin Button with her and she can be Renesmee." Even Twilight author Stephenie Myer can see White appearing in the final films. "Wouldn't it be amazing if she was like just sitting there with a big group of the Volturi? That would be amazing." Yeah, that would be amazing, all right ...
The funny thing here is that it assumes the Betty White craze will still be relevant by the time Breaking Dawn releases -- and in the fickle worlds of entertainment and popular culture, there's no guarantee of that happening. Do we file this one under "Who cares?", "What the hell are they thinking?", or "I love it."? Sound off below.
