Once Joss Whedon offered up the television version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, it quickly became the go-to comparison for vamp fare -- especially when any young girls are pitted against the bloodsuckers. Now Whedon has offered up the formula for what made Buffy so kickass -- both literally and figuratively. Since Buffy made EW's new list of the 100 Greatest Characters of the Past 20 Years (a list that includes both television and film), Joss decided to reveal the measurements that lead to slayer perfection:Personally, I'm surprised there is not at least a tablespoon or two of Wonder Woman. Not only did Whedon almost helm a feature film for the superhero, but she was a heroine from mythic origins who wore powerful and fancy accessories to fight. There's a whole recipe for how to make a Buffy. Take one cup Sarah Connor from the first Terminator movie; one cup Ripley [from Alien]; three tablespoons of the younger sister in [the 1984 postapocalyptic comedy] Night of the Comet; a few sprigs of A Little Princess -- the book, not the movies; and a pinch of Jimmy Stewart for pain, because nobody does better pain. Bake those up. Once it's cool, add a little Rosalind Russell from His Girl Friday. All of this must be in a P.J.-Soles-in-Halloween crust. That's very important.
What do you think? Is this the right formula? Is Joss missing any important ingredients?
