If you were wondering who would be the next Hulk Hogan, in other words, the next wrestler to make the leap from the four-sided circle into the cesspool of high-concept family films, look no further than Blade Trinity
star Triple H
(aka Paul Levesque). WWE Films announced that Triple H will be the star of The Chaperone
, yet another movie about a muscle-head taking care of kids. What makes this one different from Kindergarten Cop
, Mr. Nanny
, The Pacifier
, or The Gameplan
? It's the first screenplay from off-Broadway playwright S.J. Roth. (I like pretending that the Coen Brothers' film Barton Fink
represents the true story of how this movie is getting made.)
The movie follows Trip as an ex-con on the run from his criminal past, hiding out from those he ratted on by chaperoning a field trip to New Orleans. Hijinks ensue. I'm sure this is intended for theatrical release, but WWE lost some big distribution partners when they traded down to Samuel Goldwyn from Twentieth Century Fox and Lionsgate.
Can they turn Triple H into their next movie star? Maybe. It worked for Kane
! Oh, wait. I mean, it worked for John Cena
! No? Um. It worked for Ted DiBiase Jr., didn't it? Okay. I give up...
