Quentin Tarantino's next film may be in a little-known genre: the "Southern."In a recent interview with the New York Daily News, Tarantino mentioned that his next project -- much like 'Blazing Saddles' -- might be a new spin on the Western genre that tackles slavery.
"Let's shine that light on ourselves," the 46-year-old director told Rush & Malloy at an Oscar luncheon. "You could do a ponderous history lesson of slaves escaping on the Underground Railroad. Or, you could make a movie that would be exciting. Do it as an adventure. A spaghetti Western that takes place during that time. And I would call it 'A Southern.'"

Whether he's serious or not, only QT knows. During that same interview he spoke candidly about his reverence for marijuana, how he refrains from "smoking" while moviemaking and how his pot-loving 'Inglorious Basterds' star, Brad Pitt, does as well.
So perhaps Tarantino's plans to make a "Southern" are just the product of a public brainstorm by a talented professional during non-working hours.
However, the speculation is nothing new for Tarantino, who's notoriously open about his future intentions, regardless of whether or not they pan out. Having been down this road before with the possible 'Basterds' prequel, the much talked-about 'Pulp Fiction'/'Reservoir Dogs' crossover 'The Vega Brothers' and the third installment in the 'Kill Bill' series, we've found that the right moment to get excited about a Tarantino flick is when we see the trailer for it.
In the meantime, Tarantino will next appear at the Kodak Theater on Mar. 7 for the 82nd annual Academy Awards. He's up for two awards -- Best Director and Best Original Screenplay for 'Inglourious Basterds.'
