The Alliance of Women Film Journalists has weighed in on their picks for the best of 2009. And if the Oscars plays out anything like this list, early next year should be a great time for women in Hollywood. Kathryn Bigelow and The Hurt Locker picked up 6 nods from the association, including the top spots of Best Film and Best Director. Anne Thompson has since weighed in on that pick, sure that the female director will win the Best Director Oscar this year, becoming the first woman to ever receive that honor. But Bigelow wasn't the only winning woman the AWFJ picked out of the crowd.

Screenplay nods went to (500) Days of Summer and Up in the Air -- two of my favorite scripts of the year, An Education won Carey Mulligan some acting love, Inglorious Basterds won a handful of awards including Best Editing for Sally Menke, and Meryl Streep received kudos as an "Actress Defying Age and Ageism" with Julie & Julia and It's Complicated. But the association didn't only dish out praise. There are also losers amongst the list, led by Robert Luketic, who received the "Sexist Pig" and "Hall of Shame" awards for The Ugly Truth -- an honor, I'd think, that should be shared with Katherine Heigl, who produced and starred. Beyond that, there's woe for Hilary Swank, who earned the "Actress Most in Need of a New Agent" nod while Amelia won "Movie You Wanted to Love But Just Couldn't."
