Last week's premiere episode of Syfy's Stargate Universe managed to attract more viewers than some network shows, including Fox's Dollhouse, to become the biggest Stargate franchise premiere in four years. The viewer and critical responses to the show were mixed, with some praising its darker look and direction and others calling it tedious and derivative. (We liked it. Thanks for asking.)
We're anticipating another Syfy premiere this week: The cable network welcomes back Amanda Tapping's Sanctuary for season two on Friday. Will the Sanctuary premiere follow Syfy's high-ratings trend set by Warehouse 13 and SGU?
Also this week, Paris Hilton skanks up Supernatural, FlashForward gets more cast members, and zombies attack Smallville! Click through for this week's TV picks and previews.
Heroes, "Acceptance" - Ali Larter returns to suck all the fun and momentum out of the show, and T-Bag sees an image of HRG on tattoo girl's back. Plus, Nathan finally gets a full-on Sylar flashback full of disturbing images of a poolside murder. (Monday, 7 p.m. on NBC.)
FalshForward, "137 Sekunden" – Mark and Janis head to Germany to meet the man who claims to know why the blackout lasted as long as it did. In the preview below, he claims that "the future has already happened." Does this hint that the show will introduce honest-to-goodness time travel to the mix? Gabriel Union leads a pack of guest stars. (Thursday, 8 p.m. on ABC.)
Supernatural, "Fallen Idol" – Sam and Dean track a demon monster ghost thing impersonating Paris Hilton in what's sure to be a fun throwaway episode. Judging by the trailer, Abe Lincoln, Ghandi and James Dean also turn up for some blood-soaked fun. (Thursday, 9 p.m. on the CW.)
Fringe, "Momentum Deferred" – Walter whips up another mind-altering substance to help Olivia remember her trip to the alternate universe. Leonard Nimoy returns as William Bell, and Peter investigates a series of robberies linked to shape-shifters. (Thursday, 9 p.m. on Fox.)
Smallville, "Rabid" – Zod tries to bring the people of Metropolis to their knees by releasing a virus that turns them into zombies (where's Woody Harrelson when you need him?). When Lois is infected, Clark has no choice but to cure her with his Kryptonian blood. (Sounds like someone's been watching True Blood.) (Friday, 8 p.m. on The CW.)
Dollhouse, "Belle Chose" – Last week's baby mamma plot was a bit of a snore, but the trailer for this week's ep reminds me of the awesome Apha arc. Victor is imprinted with the personality of a serial killer and set loose on L.A. Sounds like the perfect time to test out the ol' "remote wipe" software. (Friday, 9 p.m. on Fox.)
Stargate Universe, "Air: Part 3" – We've already seen the third episode of Syfy's newest series, and it's a bit of a mixed bag. The team gates to a desert planet in search of a mineral that will fix The Destiny's life support system. Along the way, Eli ges in a few good one-liners while Lt. Scott has a heat-induced flashback. (Friday, 9 p.m. on Syfy.)
Sanctuary, "End of Nights" – Magnus and crew meet a con artist named Kate Freelander while searching for Ashley, who was seemingly brainwashed by the Cabal last season. Season two promises more monsters, more backstory, and even an "Epitaph One" type episode set in the future. (Friday, 10 p.m. on Syfy.)
