The climax of last summer's 'Wanted' didn't leave much hope that Angelina Jolie would join James McAvoy for a sequel (a bullet to the brain has a funny way of doing that). But director Timur Bekmambetov claims he's figured out a way to resurrect Jolie's badass assassin for 'Wanted 2' (should she choose to sign on for the project, of course) -- and it involves the mysterious healing power of those wax baths Angie and co. were so partial to taking in the original. 'Gossip Girl' star Blake Lively has joined and Chris Cooper is in negotiations to join the stellar ensemble cast of 'The Town,' Ben Affleck's directorial follow-up to 'Gone Baby Gone.' The romantic crime thriller centers on the love triangle between a bank robber (Affleck), the FBI agent pursuing him (Jon Hamm) and the bank manager (Rebecca Hall) with whom they're both enamored. Lively will play Affleck's troubled ex-girlfriend, while Cooper would play his father. [The Hollywood Reporter]


While Winona Ryder-propagated talk of a possible 'Heathers' sequel appears to have died, the cult-hit 1989 movie may yet live again ... this time as a TV series. Fox is developing a contemporary take on the story -- which revolved around a high-school girl (Ryder) who, with the help of the badboy new guy at school (Christian Slater), begins murdering the school's clique of mean girls, who are all named Heather. 'Sex and the City' alum Jenny Bicks and Mark Rizzo are writing the adaptation. [Variety]


Michael Bay will produce and possibly direct 'I Am Number Four,' based on the sci-fi novel by Jobie Hughes and James Frey (yes, Oprah's James Frey). 'Smallville' co-creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are writing the script, which centers on nine aliens who flee to Earth disguised as teenagers when their home planet is destroyed. [Variety]


Steven Spielberg, who so memorably breathed big-screen life into Michael Crichton's 'Jurassic Park,' is set to adapt the late author's work once again. Spielberg will produce and potentially direct 'Pirate Latitudes,' Crichton's posthumously published adventure tale about a pirates' raid on Port Royal in 1665. [USA Today]


If that 16 minutes of 'Avatar' footage that unspooled in theaters last Friday got you amped up for James Cameron's long-awaited sc-fi epic, you can begin making plans to see the entire film right now. Tickets for select midnight showings of the movie in about 50 AMC IMAX theaters have already gone on sale -- a full four months before the film opens at 12:01 a.m. on Dec. 18. [Variety]


Hayden Christensen has signed on to star in the indie thriller 'Vanishing on Seventh Street,' about a once-vibrant city where shadowy forms now cause residents to disappear without warning. Christensen will play one of five survivors (Thandie Newton and John Leguizamo are in negotiations to join him) who fight to stay alive ... but also make time to contemplate the meaning of existence.
