What's a distributor to do when it has a bunch of kitschy, random flicks on its hands? They slap a title like "The Lost Collection" across a few of 'em, toss the DVDs onto the market, and see if there's enough interest to warrant another batch of "Lost Collection" titles. Points to Lionsgate, however, for approaching their subject matter with a good dose of humor -- even if we're not exactly thrilled with all these fullscreen transfers. So here, submitted for your approval, are the eight titles in LG's new "Lost Collection." Whether or not the flicks deserve to remain "lost" is entirely up to you.

Hiding Out (1987) -- Jon Cryer, Annabeth Gish, and Keith Coogan star in this insipid "comedy" about a youthful stockbroker who hides out from assassins ... in a high school. I have a weird sort of hate for this movie. (Widescreen, trivia track, trailer)

Homer & Eddie (1989) -- One of those wistful dramedies in which a mentally handicapped person becomes friends with an aggressively antisocial person. In this case, the former is Jim Belushi and the latter is Whoopi Goldberg. (Widescreen, trivia track)

Irreconcilable Differences (1984) -- Co-written by a young Nancy Myers (ahem), this one stars Drew Barrymore as a little girl who wants to divorce her parents, Ryan O'Neal and Shelley Long. Keep your eyes peeled for a young Sharon Stone. Or don't. (Fullscreen, trivia track)

Morgan Stewart's Coming Home (1987) -- Ouch, more Jon Cryer, although this party-boy comedy is interesting in that it went through a couple of directors before the fictional Alan Smithee received final credit. That factoid is more entertaining than anything else in the flick. Actually, Paul Gleason is in the film, so there's one good thing. (Fullscreen, trivia track, trailer)


My Best Friend Is a Vampire (1988) -- Somehow I've never seen this horror comedy in which Robert Sean Leonard deals with vampirism in silly ways. Sounds a whole lot like Once Bitten, if you ask me. (Fullscreen, trivia track)

The Night Before (1988) -- Keanu Reeves (yes, that Keanu Reeves) stars in a gimmick comedy that aims to be Adventures in Babysitting for a slighty older crowd, but frankly it's been way too long since I've seen this one to produce snark with any degree of accuracy. I can say that it co-stars the beautiful Lori Loughlin and was directed by the guy who did the clever Night of the Comet and the highly underrated Without a Clue. Beyond that you're on your own. Repossessed (1990) -- Imagine an Exorcist spoof done firmly in the rapid-fire, mega-broad Airplane! style. Now imagine that only about 20% of the jokes are actually funny. Definitely worthy of a look for curious horror fans, plus it's not every day you see a movie that stars Linda Blair, Leslie Nielsen, AND Ned Beatty. (Fullscreen, trivia track, trailer)


Slaughter High (1986) Scream queen Caroline Munro stars in a slasher flick that, as a growing horror nerd, I always got confused with Splatter University. Surely you can understand. The DVD cover offers an "uncut" version, and that might be of mild interest to the hardcore slasher savorers. -- (Fullscreen, trivia track, trailer)
