EuropaCorp has bought the adaptation rights to Mathias Malzieu's La Mecanique du coeur (The Mechanics of the Heart), which they will turn into a 3-D animated film. In a surprising and sweet twist for the author, Malzieu will not only get to adapt his novel, but also co-direct it. That's pretty much a writer's dream come true. The piece is set in 1874, and centers on "a young man whose heart was replaced at birth with a clock. He should avoid strong emotions, above all love, but can't keep his heart under control." Or, maybe they should say "clock" under control. Those tickers are quite lust-filled, you know.
Dionysos has already created an album inspired by the story, and Stephane Berla, who directed clips from it, will co-direct. Meanwhile, Joann Sfar, who helped with the book's graphics and album, will collaborate.
