Hot because: He's the people's new favorite actor (bye bye, Tom Hanks), having picked up a statue to prove it. Sure, it wasn't another Oscar nomination for playing Captain Jack Sparrow, but really, who cares what the Academy thinks when you're as popular as this? In addition to the accolades for last year's performance, Depp donned the pirate garb once more for this year's Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Now his next role, as a singing serial killer in Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, is one of the most anticipated of the holiday season. How to stay hot: The Sweeney Todd role may not be the most accessible, but strange parts have never hurt Depp before. Still, with Pirates possibly over forever, he could use something to appeal to the kids again (and maybe win their award next time). It's too bad his next movie is stalled due of the writer's strike, but there's sure to be some other interesting gigs for the guy down the line. Really, though, all Depp needs to do is be himself, which has thus far worked perfectly in his favor.
