It's funny -- when Michael Moore announced that he was going to be holding a film Festival in his home town of Flint, MI, most people suspected that he would be playing left-wing political films. Moore assured everyone that the festival would be completely nonpartisan and was motivated only by appreciation for artistically superior film making. He even went on to say that none of his films would be shown.

Genie Aldrich, a resident of nearby Suttons Bay, tried unsuccessfully last month to dissuade the city commission from letting Moore show films in a municipal waterfront park. So instead she has started up her own film festival. "People are fed up and tired with the extreme left-wing radical fringe — America haters, family haters, Christian haters," said Aldrich.
The Traverse Bay Freedom Film Festival will feature a dozen movies, including independent, politically oriented productions such as: In the Face of Evil: a tribute to Ronald Reagan, Confronting Iraq a defense of the war in Iraq sponsored by the conservative group Accuracy in Media; and Michael Moore Hates America.

Moore's lineup as promised does not include any political movies, but does include classics such as Jaws and Casablanca, and recently produced independents including the Cannes grand prize winner Broken Flowers. "These are highly acclaimed films," Moore said. "Theirs are works of political propaganda." Moore's festival will run from July 27-31, overlapping with the Freedom Festival, scheduled for July 29-30.

I hate to start a politically fueled comment thread, but isn't it a bit telling that the conservative side needs to show right wing documentaries at their festival while Michael Moore is fine with showing good films?
