Back in early June we told you that Gene Wilder wasn't wild about Wonka: "I like Johnny Depp, and I appreciate that he has said on record that my shoes will be hard to fill. But I don't know how it will all turn out."Well, his tune has changed a little. Now he's telling the MRIB: "If I were going to cast the movie I would cast Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka because I think he is wonderful. Mysterious - always - and magical."
Casting aside, Wilder is still cynical about the motives behind the new movie: "It used to be that they were almost as concerned with making a good film as a money maker. Today the money making comes first."
With the current state of the box office, he may have a good point.
