The new Batman flick hasn't even opened yet, but let's talk sequels! Would you go see the next movie if the villains were the Fearsome Foot-Fighters, bad guys from the country of Karonia who are also acrobats? Probably not. The Onion has a great piece highlighting some of the forgotten (and deservedly so) criminals from the Batman comics of the 40s through the 80s. My favorite is The Penny Plunderer, a guy who sold newspapers and got fired for pinching pennies. So what does he do? He becomes a criminal mastermind committing penny-themed crimes! That's him in the pic, throwing a roll of pennies at the Cape Crusader. Imagine trying to make that into a movie in 2005.
